Dr. Andrew S. Erickson is a professor of strategy at the U.S. Naval War College’s China Maritime Studies Institute (CMSI) and a visiting scholar at Harvard University’s John King Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies. He is the author and editor of numerous papers and books on China’s military and security matters in the Indo-Pacific, including the “Studies in Chinese Maritime Development” series. Erickson's latest publications include the Foreign Affairs essay, "Competition with China Can Save the Planet," and Hold The Line through 2035: A Strategy to Offset China’s Revisionist Actions and Sustain a Rules-Based Order in the Asia-Pacific. He also runs the research website China Analysis from Original Sources.What follows is a lightly edited Q&A.
