Zhou Jianping, born in 1957, has served as the chief designer of China’s Manned Space Program since 2006. The program, established in 1992, trains and supports the country’s taikonauts and coordinates manned Shenzhou spacecraft launches.
Zhou earned a doctoral degree from the National University of Defense Technology in 1989. After his PhD, he taught at NUDT until transferring to the China Manned Space Engineering Office in 2000.
