Chen Dong, born in 1978, has served as commander of the PLA Astronaut corps, from which many Chinese taikonauts (astronauts) are drawn, since 2023. He studied at the PLA Air Force academy in Changchun and continued in the air force after graduating.
Chen was selected to join the second batch of Chinese astronauts in 2010, and has since been to space three times. He is the first Chinese taikonaut accumulate over 400 days in orbit.
